The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has finally granted permission to the Metro rail development authority to begin construction work on the underground stretch of Ahmedabad Metro passing close to the archaeologically protected monuments. The track would be laid at a distance of 106 to 289 meters from these monuments.
Officials have stated that the proposed stretch is more likely to become operational in the first quarter of 2019. Trial runs of the train from Vastral would begin by the first week of January 2019. IP Gautam, Managing Director, Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, has shared that the Authority has sanctioned the development of the underground route running along 10 ASI protected structures.

At the Apparel Park depot, the construction work is at an advanced stage and is expected to be completed by October 2018. Work on the stretch running from APMC to Motera is underway. A 5km long elevated corridor has been completed. The RCC works of three stations are heading up to the completion phase.
The East-West corridor, running from Vastral to Thaltej, is also under construction. About 2km of the elevated corridor has been completed and another 2km is underway.
